What should I charge for this haul?

Put a price on one truck, one trip, and one load. Try your numbers before quoting the job.

Your haul

Start with the example or enter your costs. Include fuel and wear in the truck rate, and loading and dump time in the driver hours.

Haul estimate

Break-even on entered costs
$220.00
Price for your target margin
$275.00
Price with one extra driver hour
$312.50

At the original price, an extra hour reduces your earnings by $30.00. These figures cover the costs you entered and exclude tax and fixed overhead.

How the estimate works

Trip cost equals disposal plus round-trip miles times truck rate plus hours times driver rate. Divide that cost by one minus the target margin to find your price. The calculator rounds up to the next cent.

For example, $80 at the landfill, 40 miles at $2 per mile and two hours at $30 per hour cost $220. A 20% margin calls for $275. With a third hour the same margin calls for $312.50.
